Karol McGinn
Co-founder and President of McGinn & Teixeira P.A., moved to Florida from Kansas City in May of 1988. At that time, she enrolled in the Counselor Education graduate program at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Her goal was to go into private practice. After graduating in 1991, she worked in various settings and with clients who presented a variety of concerns. When she thought that she had gained enough valuable experience by working with clients in these settings and working with other counselors, she started her private practice in Spring Hill, Florida in 1998. In 2004, she joined with Jim Teixeira and moved her practice to Tampa.
Karol is active in professional organizations and has been a board member of the Suncoast Mental Health Counselors’ Association, the Florida Mental Health Counselors’ Association, and the Florida Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association . She is a member of the American Mental Health Counselor’s Association and the Tampa Bay Association of Women Psychotherapists.
Her credentials include a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas; two degrees from the University of Florida (a master’s and a specialist); licensing from the State of Florida to be a Licensed Mental Health Counselor; and national credentialing as a National Certified Counselor.
Karol has been a teacher in both middle and high schools. She has presented workshops on parenting, at risk adolescents, families, criminal thinking, addictions, team building and clinical documentation.
Jim Teixeira
Jim was born in California and lived in several states and countries as part of his experience in the United States Marine Corp. Prior to moving to Tampa in 1988, he attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. In Texas, he earned his bachelor’s degree. After moving to the Tampa area, Jim attended the University of South Florida and earned his Master’s degree in Counseling. He has been in the counseling field for 15 years.
Jim is active in professional organizations. He is a past president of the Suncoast Mental Health Counselors’ Association which serves Pinellas, Hillsborough and Pasco counties. Suncoast Mental Health Counselors’ Association is the largest chapter of the Florida Mental Health Counselors’ Association in the State of Florida. Jim is a former board member of the Florida Mental Health Counselors’ Association. He is past president of the Florida Adlerian Society and continues to be an active member.
Counseling experience includes working with clients who have been diagnosed with eating disorders, addictions, dual diagnoses, depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, individual and relationship issues. He has extensive experience in assessments. Jim is trained in Systematic Training for Effective Parenting techniques which he uses in his work with adolescents and families. He has worked extensively with adolescents with an emphasis on troubled teens.
Jim has been a presenter at many workshops. His specialties in presentations are the family, parenting, adolescents, addictions, clinical documentation, and assessments.
Jim is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor.
Eileen Gustafson
Eileen Gustafson is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She received her Bachelors Degree at Adelphi University in New York and completed her Masters Degree at the University of South Florida.
Eileen specializes in treating both men and women with a variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, stress management, substance abuse and trauma. She is also qualified to complete substance abuse assessments under the Department of Transportation.
Eileen Gustafson joined Carrollwood Counseling in January
2006.
